Here?s a true mid-century rarity, a bamboo set with mid-century modern lines. Not only does it have a great design, but its spacious and very well made too. The bamboo frame is thick and sturdy, and in excellent condition. The fabric is not in bad shape either. There are no rips or stains, but the bottom cushioning/foam needs to be replaced. It has decomposed and is very hard.
Manufactured by the Ficks Reed Company, whose skilled artisans custom made each piece with an attention to detail, comfort, and craftsmanship. Through the years the Ficks Reed company collaborated with some of the world's top designers including Dorothy Draper and Paul T. Frankl.
Bamboo/rattan is certainly experiencing a revival of sorts. You see it everywhere on blogs and home decor magazines and with good reason. It can be used in so many ways; in natural tones, lacquered a fun bright color, or even simplistic white. It makes for a relaxing atmosphere and brings a coziness to more formal spaces.
